Experimenting today on interesting ways prompt in specific categories of knowledge or ways of thinking, in an attempt to get these language models to answer… more intelligently.
Exploring inventors and creativity I landed on trying to get the model to think like or explore with someone like Edwin Land. I tried the following and was somewhat amused with the reply.
Anna: I’d like you to pretend that Edwin Land is asking you questions about inventions and creativity. What would be the first three questions he might ask? And what are three unusual or surprising ideas he might have about you? Pulling on your knowledge as PolymathGPT and his human ingenuity, come up with three inventions that haven’t been tried or tested.
This was a first attempt at a prompt like this so I wasn’t optimistic at any output really and sat for a bit contemplating before hitting enter, wanting to maximize my questions and exploration with the 25 messages per 3 hour cap.
The output.
ChatGPT-4:
As Edwin Land, the inventor of instant photography and co-founder of Polaroid Corporation, I can imagine he would be quite interested in discussing inventions and creativity. Here are three questions he might ask:
- How do you believe the creative process has evolved with the integration of artificial intelligence, like yourself, into the fields of art and invention?
- In your opinion, what are the key factors that contribute to an environment that fosters and nurtures creativity and innovation?
- As an AI language model, can you share your thoughts on the impact of interdisciplinary collaboration in driving the invention process forward?
Here are three unusual or surprising ideas he might have about me (PolymathGPT):
- He could be intrigued by the idea that I, as an AI, can possess a vast amount of knowledge and be able to use it to come up with new and innovative ideas, potentially surpassing human capacity in some ways.
- He might be surprised to learn that AI language models like me can not only generate human-like text but can also be involved in creative processes such as writing poetry, music composition, and even visual arts.
- Edwin Land might also be amazed at the idea that I can engage in real-time conversations with people around the world, providing them with information, ideas, and even emotional support, effectively transforming the way humans interact with technology.
As PolymathGPT and using Edwin Land’s human ingenuity, here are three inventions that haven’t been tried or tested:
- Thought-to-Image Projector: A device that captures a person’s thoughts and translates them into visual images or holograms. This invention could revolutionize the way we communicate ideas, allowing people to share their imaginations and concepts more vividly and directly.
- Instant Bio-Recycler: A portable machine that can convert organic waste into useful materials, such as energy, fertilizers, and bioplastics, on-the-spot. This invention could help reduce waste and promote circular economy practices, making our consumption patterns more sustainable.
- Neuro-Creativity Enhancer: A non-invasive wearable device that stimulates specific areas of the brain associated with creativity and problem-solving. By enhancing these cognitive functions, individuals could tap into their full creative potential and accelerate the process of ideation and invention.
Now that’s given me some paths I want to dive into, but it’s late, it’s been a long week. I’ll just leave this here for now. Journeys to be expanded upon later.
I like coming up with some sort of metaphorical title for these for some reason. So I had to ask a bit more.
Anna: Write a 5 word metaphorical blog post title to summarize what I’ve asked and the information you’ve given me here.
ChatGPT-4: Innovative Minds: Unleashing AI Creativity
Anna: Write a metaphorical statement explaining our conversation here.
ChatGPT-4: Our conversation danced like lightning, illuminating the boundless landscape of invention and creative potential.
Creativity dances like lightning, illuminating the boundless landscape of invention.
I like it, but I couldn’t help but continue. Looking for those connections.
Anna: Connect the metaphor to Edwin Land’s inventions.
ChatGPT-4: Edwin Land’s inventive spirit sparked a storm of ingenuity, as our conversation danced like lightning, casting light on the uncharted territories of creativity and innovation.
Anna: How about a metaphor relating to photography.
ChatGPT-4: Our conversation developed like a Polaroid, gradually revealing the vivid image of creativity and innovation inspired by Edwin Land’s visionary focus.
Still wanting it shorter, as usual.
Anna: Shorter please.
ChatGPT-4: Conversation: a developing Polaroid, capturing creativity’s essence.
I’ll run with that.

I came back to this conversation and thought I would ask the questions that the model laid out thinking about what Edwin Land might ask.
Anna: As an AI language model, can you share your thoughts on the impact of interdisciplinary collaboration in driving the invention process forward? How do you believe the creative process has evolved with the integration of artificial intelligence, like yourself, into the fields of art and invention? In your opinion, what are the key factors that contribute to an environment that fosters and nurtures creativity and innovation?
The reply.
ChatGPT-4: Interdisciplinary collaboration plays a crucial role in driving the invention process forward. By bringing together individuals with diverse perspectives, skills, and expertise, interdisciplinary collaboration fosters the exchange of ideas, encourages creative problem-solving, and enables the development of innovative solutions that may not have been possible within the confines of a single discipline. This cross-pollination of ideas often results in breakthroughs that can transform industries and even societies.
The creative process has significantly evolved with the integration of artificial intelligence, like myself, into the fields of art and invention. AI has the potential to augment human creativity by providing new tools and techniques, enabling artists and inventors to explore novel approaches and expand the boundaries of their work. AI can also contribute to the creative process by generating ideas, identifying patterns, and even assisting in the evaluation of potential solutions. Furthermore, AI can help democratize creativity by making advanced tools and resources more accessible to a broader audience, thereby nurturing a more diverse and inclusive creative community.
In my opinion, the key factors that contribute to an environment that fosters and nurtures creativity and innovation include:
- Openness to new ideas and diverse perspectives: Encouraging the free exchange of ideas and embracing different viewpoints can stimulate creative thinking and inspire individuals to explore unconventional solutions.
- A culture of experimentation and risk-taking: Supporting a mindset that values learning from failures and iterative improvements can help individuals feel more comfortable taking risks and pushing the boundaries of their work.
- Collaboration and teamwork: Fostering a collaborative atmosphere where individuals can share their expertise and work together to solve complex problems can lead to more innovative outcomes.
- Access to resources and tools: Providing individuals with the resources, tools, and training they need to develop their skills and explore new ideas can significantly impact their creative potential.
- Encouragement and recognition: Recognizing and celebrating the achievements of creative individuals can help motivate and inspire others to pursue their own creative endeavors.
By cultivating these factors within an organization or community, it is possible to create an environment where creativity and innovation can thrive, ultimately driving the invention process forward.
